Blessings in the Battle-Battle of Rephidim
None of us are exempt from the battles of life. Nothing has made that more clear than this fight for our lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. On top of that, I know many people are facing other very real battles on top of this one. Battles of lost jobs, lost loved ones, wayward children, health and relationship issues; battles that you don’t fully understand. I don't know why these battles occur, but with this series of blogs I want to share the good news; that you don't have to wait until the battle is over to have a better day. The divinely given gifts and benefits of an ever present Father don't cease to exist during the most difficult times in life. No matter the battles we face, there are always blessings hidden somewhere in the battle. We just need a new vantage point to see them.
Exodus 17:8-15-The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands."...As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up-one on one side, one on the other--so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword...Moses built and altar and called it the Lord is my Banner.
Blessing in this Battle: God Blesses us with a Banner
A banner is something lifted up, some thing that can be seen far off. Banners were set up on high mountains during battles to show people where to gather if they got in trouble. In the battles of life, God is still on His throne waiving high above the battles of this world; like a banner calling us to gather near Him when we need guidance and protection during the battle.
